I saw a UFO yesterday. And another last week. My first sighting was 70 years ago. Now it happens most every day. I like them. Many have fur which has not been widely reported.
Yargh! Something is goofy here. Substack posted my reply twice. I tried to delete one and it deleted both. In any case, I was just saying that you are totally right. When you think all UFOs are shiny, you miss the furry ones. And the furry ones are the best ones!
The connection of UFO sightings to poetry is super interesting, and I love how that one eyewitness description reads almost exactly like a poem. I had even to stop myself from rearranging into one! I've never heard of Clewell before, but loved reading "The Face on Mars" and the way you connected your ending to it and finding truth in what we love.
Clewell famously avoided what he called "the Po Biz," because he found it so off-putting, so his name is not out there. But he was one of the best poets writing when he passed in 2020. Highly recommend checking his stuff out. I've never met ANYONE who's read as many books as he has, not just poetry but fiction and nonfiction too. Funny story, I once found a super goofy self-published book about UFOs in a thrift store andI brought it to his office to give it to him as a gift, because I thought, there's no way he has this one. He did have it, and had read it. 😂
Before I was born, my father saw a UFO above the pine trees south of our house on the rez. During my childhood, I would sometimes sit on our porch and desperately hope that a UFO would appear. Never did.
It's funny, everyone I know who's seen one never cared to and the people who haven't (me included) looked and looked, to no avail. I guess UFOs are like other people's cats, the folks who feel neutrally or hate them always find one in their lap, and appreciators get the snub?
Oh, man , I still miss David Clewell all the time. I’ve heard so many jazz records I wanted to talk with him about these past 3 & 1/2 years. He was one of my favorite persons, and he also have me the honor of reading from my book at Webster just a few months before he passed. Or never occurred to me to look him up on YouTube. I will watch that clip but not today. Got to find the perfect moment. (Also, in regards to email, I still have several emails he sent me over the last several years. They were as fun as he was.)

I remember him talking about having you at Webster! And yes, his emails were brilliant and fun. I saved all mine as well.
