I'm sorry I missed them in STL. The Nuclear Percussion Ensemble did something in a similar vein for First Night, circa 1991. We dressed in elaborate costumes based on the cardinal points of the compass and played drums while tied into a huge wind chime we built in Grand Center. It was called 'The Circle.' I wish there was footage, but we do have some pics.
I'm sure they will do another North American tour next year - if they play Chicago, it would totally be worth the drive (or the Amtrak trip!). As a drummer I think you'd be especially interested in what they are doing. Also: wow! I'm so sad I didn't get to see that NPE performance. It sounds amazing. I would love to see some pics! That sounds very much in line with what these cats are doing.
When The millennium flipped and everyone was celebrating with robots and lasers, we dressed in animal masks made from twigs, feathers and stones. We built a huge bonfire and danced around it with drums and bells. I love this sort of stuff.
Oh!! Write about this. I want to to hear you tell this story in detail. Also, if these guys come to Utah definitely go see them. One of the most remarkable, beautiful shows I’ve ever seen. My only beef with the Saenger was we could not really dance, and this was very much dancing music.
I’m not sure about Heilung… something about their show that makes me think of Riverdance, or the Edinburgh Tattoo, in that it’s all taking itself just a bit too seriously, earnestly trying to be authentic. But their support lady Eivor, holy smoking hot Faroese goddess!

This fine article brings up a valid argument: which city goes harder...
